Summertime in wine country is party time! British Columbia’s wine growing regions are found in the most beautiful settings imaginable. The West Coast, the Islands, the Okanagan- do make sure to plan trips to taste your way through each of these spectacular areas. While visiting, take advantage of Mother Nature’s incredible venues that are available by employing the original moveable feast – The Picnic. I have provided some tips and ideas for you all to take your meal on the road and enjoy it in the great outdoors. Otherwise, we have splendid restaurants for you to enjoy.

As we kick off this summer issue, I hope that many of you wine lovers are heading to Tofino for their incredible Wine Festival. I attended last year and was absolutely spellbound by the natural splendor of their events! Beautiful food, delicious wines all set in a botanical garden by the ocean. Do plan to attend – it is unforgettable. www.tofinofoodandwinefestival.com.

The Okanagan summer also offers up a plethora of Festivals and activities to enjoy. The Okanagan Summer Wine Festival is always a treat at Silver Star Resort in the North Okanagan (read more on page 15).

Whether you are learning how to saber the top off a bottle of bubbly by Eric von Krosigk, Summerhill’s Winemaker(that’s me in the photo during my lesson at my favorite hangout, The Rotten Grape in Kelowna) or just winding your way through the glorious wine trails of British Columbia – remember to raise your glasses to the people who make these fabulous wines for us . Oh, and if you are lucky enough to live here – have a party! It doesn’t have to be too labour intensive – just make it potluck and allow all of your friends to showcase their talents like we did on the cover. Cheers!
