My passport is Dutch, but I was born in Indonesia and lived also about 5 years in Colombia as a child. In 1978, my wife Anja and I, made our first vacation trip to Costa Rica from out the island Bonaire, where we were living at that moment. We were immediately impressed by the beautiful nature in this country. In 1979 we made already a second trip. In the 90s we traveled to Costa Rica, visiting relatives who already had settled in Costa Rica

It was in the Netherlands in 2003, our three children were grown up and had left the family home, we decided to move to Costa Rica there to begin with a Bed & Breakfast That was not an easy decision to make, knowing that we would see our children, grandchildren, relatives and good friends only during our holiday in the Netherlands. In January 2004 we departed from Schiphol, sad saying goodbye to our family and friends, but when we arrived at the airport in San Jose stood our other family to welcome us. We quickly bought a car and went throughout Costa Rica looking for that special place. We found that special place in Ojochal, a small village, one hour drive south of the National Park Manuel Antonio, close to the Pacific Ocean. And we loved it!
It is called "El Mono Feliz" (The Happy Monkey)

There was already a building, a small B & B with pool and apartment. With our own hands and the help of good carpenters, we builded our own home and three beautiful tropical bungalows. The garden has been modified and we constructed walking paths and bridges, so that the visitors can enjoy the beautiful tropical nature.

We knew there were more Dutch and Belgium owners of hotels and B&B's in Costa Rica with Dutch as their native lenguage. We contacted them and together we found a organization, called HOLLAND HOTELS COSTA RICA. In 2015 this organization will exist 10 years. Since the beginning many Europeans and American travellers found their way to the Holland Hotels Costa Rica. The owners will point out all those unknow little diamonts here in Costa Rica, spots not known by the crowd.

You are welcome to discouver Costa Rica in having every day a new adventure!
